Abstract

Despite the passing of the years, Hiroshima signifies for (Elle-Riva) a return to the past and to the war that affected her personally in France, and keeps in the memory of the terrifying events that she remembers in Hiroshima her German lover who died in her arms. A French lover who establishes a romantic relationship with the Japanese, who was not in Hiroshima when the atomic bomb was dropped on her, (Elle-Riva) was living another story in Nevers in France. Between love and memory, the space of memory is vast, from Nevers in France, where its beloved German soldier was killed, to "Hiroshima", the place struck by war. In fact, this novel takes place about a French actress who arrives in Hiroshima to shoot a film about peace. She falls in love with a Japanese engineer. This love makes her remember her relationship with her first lover, the German soldier in her French town of Nevers, during the Nazi occupation and the Second World War. The French woman searches for what will repair her inner breakdown, hoping to bury her own past by sympathizing with the greater suffering of the countless victims, but her visit to Hiroshima and her brief affair amplifies her grief. We find that the novel Hiroshima my Love is more interested in memory itself than in the painful act of remembering Hiroshima. Moreover, the story jumps chronologically and we often do not find the precise place where we are. In our opinion, there is an impeccable comparison between heartbreak and the bombing of Hiroshima.
