Abstract

The hydrological studies of dry and seasonal valley basins represent great importance in development studies, due to their great need for water in areas that suffer from scarcity in these resources and are far from permanent water sources. The Abu Nakhla valley is one of the dry valleys in the western plateau of Iraq, which is characterized by seasonal water flow during the rainy season in the winter months. So, reliance was made on topographic maps and using geographic information systems (GIS 10.4) to measure the characteristics of the basin with the application of a set of statistical models and mathematical operations for the purpose of knowing the volume of surface runoff and the amount of water running in the basin to benefit from this water for human uses present in it or near and from it in the agricultural or pastoral field.
