The study aimed to evaluate the inhibitory role of probiotics on Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis (S.Enteritidis) virulence factors in morphological level. Twenty five stool specimens were collected from children under five years suffering from acute diarrhea hospitalized in Al-Zahrawi Hospital,Mosul city from 1/7/2021 till 1/9/2021. One isolate of S.Enteritidis was obtained from these specimens with incidence rate of 4%. Four probiotics included three bacterial species and one yeast species obtained from different sources were used in this study included Lactobacillus acidophilus, Pediococcus pentosaceus, Bifidobacterium bifidum and Saccharomyces boulardii.
The inhibitory effect of the four probiotics cell-free culture supernatants on S.Enteritidis growth using well diffusion method was measured, the results showed that P.pentosaceus cell-free culture supernatant had the highest inhibitory zone reached 17 mm. The effect of probiotics cell-free culture supernatants on three virulence factors of S.Enteritidis namely biofim , adhesion to epithelial cells and swarming motility were studied.
